I have decided to change my subject after thinking a little about why it was, I was going to pick the mandate of heaven. The topic I now want to have a deeper dive into is Ancient Chinese Mythology. The reason I was going to pick the mandate of heaven and what happened to rulers if they disobeyed it was because I think a lot of societies rules both written and unwritten have come from the religions and mythology that surrounds/has affected that society. For American society we see from time-to-time connections between the bible and moral justifications. An example of this would be the commonly used saying ‘an eye of an eye’ or the idea of karma being used.
In addition, I also decided to change my mind as I have always had a great love for Greek mythology and would find myself reading stories for hours and hours. So, in a class where we get to create our own assignments, I thought that I would combine something I didn’t know much about, Chinese culture, along with a great love of mine, mythology. My hope is that I will be able to both learn about the awesome creatures and stores of Chinese mythology whilst also being able to gain an insight into Chinese culture.
